Description

Howdens Lamona Black Chrome Tap3630 Valve

There are several versions of this tap that came with different valves. The earliest with 20 spline valves, and later with 28 splines . The splines are the ridges on the top of your valve that your handle slots onto. Your handle also has splines (grooves) on the inside too to enable it to fit snugly and correctly over your valve. That is why, when a customer buys a ‘generic’ valve they can damage their handle if the splines on the valve do not match up in number to the splines on the inside of the handle. Splines are always even number. Never odd number.

So for your Tap:

The first thing that you must do is establish which valve is in your tap i.e count the splines, and if 20 – order the 3549R, and if 28, then you will have to select between the two different 28 valve options we give you based on the advice below. If you have 28 splines and are unsure of the date, then pick the 4276R valve as it covers both the earliest models that came with the 28 spline valve and the later models. ome with 24 splines and the Hi Tech has 28 splines. If you are sure that you have the Hi-Tech model e.g. have documentation, then skip down to the advice about the 28 spline valve and which 28 spline valve to order depending on age of your own tap.

We would advise that you remove your own handle and check which you have before ordering. Or remove handle and send us a picture of your Tap plus the picture of the exposed splines and we can see which you have i.e we will do our best to count / identify from the picture.

This guide 7 easy steps to change your valve will assist you in removing the handle. Its not hard at all.
If your Tap has 20 splines : Buy the 3549R Valve.

If your Tap has 28 splines : Then either default to the 4276R valve option (which is the 28 splines with white seal, two sets of threads) OR if your Tap is 2015 or later, you can buy the 3547R 28 spline valve option. Remember, if in doubt, but you are sure you have 28 splines, then buy the 4276R.

Why these two different 28 spline valve options at all ?

Why these two different 28 spline valve options at all ? The very earliest valve with 28 splines c. 2014 and earlier is now discontinued. The current 3547R valve, which ‘appears’ identical, might not always work in a very old Tap. But we know that the 4276R with white seals will work in the older models.

Where your Valve is stamped 2014 or earlier AND has 28 splines, then Please select the Valve 4276R, which is a two threaded Valve. It will look different than your own one threaded valve, but it is the best Valve to use as a replacement valve simply because of the age of your Tap.
Where your Valve is stamped 2015 or later: You can select either the 4276R with two threads (which comes with the larger white seal) OR the 3547R one threaded valve which is the same valve that is in your Tap.

Please note that rarely, a customer, when fitting the 4276R valve with white seal underneath, reports a slight gap between handle and body of the tap. This is due to the larger white seal. This seal will flatten with use. If you wish to buy the 3547R and your tap continues to drip, we will not replace under 1 year warranty if your Tap is 2014 or older. Please retain your old valve as proof of age of your own Tap. The valve will have a date stamped on it.

Buy the 3549R Valve.valves here. Skip down to the section on 28 spline valves if that is what your own Tap has and if unsure, email us pictures and we can assist you sales@tapsandsinksonline.co.uk
The easiest way to determine which valve is in your own tap is to remove the handle and count the splines (ridges). If not sure when you have removed the handle, you can always email us a picture of valve in situ (handle off) and we can tell you which valve is in your own tap .

There is a screw where the black band is to remove the handle. Here is our guide to remove your tap handle.
