What Is a Kitchen Tap O-Ring? How to Find the Right One
What Is a Kitchen Tap O-Ring? How to Find the Right One
A kitchen tap O-ring is a small rubber ring with a big role. It helps form a watertight seal where the spout fits into the base of your tap. In this guide, we explain where O-rings are used, why they’re not all the same, and how to make sure you get the correct kit.

Where Are O-Rings Used?
- On the tap spout: These O-rings are located at the bottom of the spout where it inserts into the tap body. They allow the spout to swivel while forming a watertight seal.
- On some valves and brass bushes: Some manufacturers fit black rubber O-rings on these components to help seal the connection inside the tap.
Genuine Kitchen Tap O-Ring Kits by Tap Model
We do not match O-rings by size or measurement. O-rings can vary in:
- Thickness
- Diameter
- Material composition
- Groove placement and shape
For this reason, we only sell manufacturer-supplied O-ring kits for specific taps. Manufacturers design each kit to suit a specific spout and tap body combination.
Kitchen Tap Spout O-Rings – Common Repair
In most cases, when customers contact us about leaking taps, the issue is a leak at the base of the spout. This is usually caused by worn O-rings.
If you are replacing your spout entirely, you do not need to buy an O-ring kit separately – we supply all replacement spouts with the correct O-rings already fitted.
Can You Measure Kitchen Tap O-Rings?
At first glance, it might seem like a good idea to match an O-ring by diameter or thickness. However, a close match doesn’t guarantee a proper seal. The design of the spout base and tap body matters.
We regularly see issues when customers try to match by size — as a result, they often end up with stiffness, leaks, or a loose-fitting spout.
Valve and Bush O-Rings – Why We Don’t Sell Them Separately
Although some valves or brass bushes include O-rings, we only sell these parts as complete assemblies — not the O-rings separately. Here’s why:
- We supply parts exactly as the manufacturer provides them.
- Replacing only an O-ring on a valve won’t always fix the problem. If the valve is faulty, the whole valve must be replaced.

Can you please supply an O ring kit for a River Marrone kitchen pillar tap.
Hi Allan I am very sorry but we don’t have any technical information regarding your tap. Therefore I am unable to assist you if it is an O Ring Kit that you require.
This part has to be the correct part for the tap – the same as the one used by the manufacturer as otherwise your Tap might leak.
All I can advise is that you contact the manufacturer directly in this instance. If it was a valve or a cartridge then I could check to see if we had the same / compatible.
