Howdens Lamona HI Tech Tap dripping
How to Fix a Dripping Howdens Lamona Hi Tech Tap
If your Howdens Lamona Hi Tech Tap is dripping, the most common causes are worn valves or O-rings at the base of the spout.
Start by confirming you have the Hi Tech model. If your tap looks like the one below, and you have a Howdens kitchen, there’s a strong chance it’s the correct model. Look closely at the handle wing tip design as this is distinctive.

Tap Dripping? Diagnose the Problem
1) Dripping from the spout (aerator)?
This usually means one or both valves need replacing.
2) Dripping from the handle?
This also points to a worn valve. Replace the valve on that side.
Which valve do you need?
The Hi Tech tap uses a 28-spline valve:
- Stamped 2014 or earlier: Use the 4276R.
- Stamped 2015 or later: You can use either the 3547R or the 4276R.
If you don’t know the age and want a guaranteed fit, choose the 4276R – it works across all years.
We source our valves from the original manufacturer. These are genuine parts.

Check the brass bush (part around the valve)
Sometimes the valve bush (3408R – 36 mm diameter) comes out stuck to the old valve. If you’re replacing the valve, we recommend ordering a bush as well—especially if a plumber is doing the work. Unused bushes can be returned.
How to Remove the Handle and Valve (Hi Tech)
- Isolate hot and cold water supplies. Open the tap to release residual water.
- Remove dust cap: Use a small precision screwdriver or fingernail to lever out the round chrome cap in the centre of the handle.
- Unscrew cross-head screw: Remove the screw beneath the cap.
- Pull off the handle: Pull straight away from the body. If tight, wiggle gently—do not lever against the chrome.
- Unscrew the valve: Hold the tap body (protect with a soft cloth) and use a 17 mm ring spanner or adjustable wrench to turn the valve anti-clockwise.
- Check for the bush: If the brass bush comes out attached to the valve, unscrew it from the old valve and reuse it on the new valve.
- Clean the chamber: Wipe out debris in the valve seat before fitting the new valve.
- Reassemble in reverse. Turn water back on and test for leaks and smooth handle travel.
3) Dripping at the base of the spout?
This points to worn O-rings or a damaged spout. Inspect for pinholes or wear under the O-rings. Replacement spouts are finish-specific: Chrome or Brushed Nickel.
Replace the O-Rings (Hi Tech)
- Hold the body and unscrew the spout locking collar at the base of the spout.
- Pull the spout vertically upwards to remove.
- Use a small screwdriver to remove the old O-rings. If worn, remove the white PTFE spacer.
- Clean the inside of the tap body and the spout base with a soft damp cloth.
- Fit the new PTFE spacer (if required) and slide on the new O-rings. Grease thoroughly with silicone grease for best sealing and smooth rotation.
- Reinsert the spout and screw the collar back on firmly. Test for leaks.

Do I Need a Plumber?
Many Hi Tech owners complete these repairs themselves. If you prefer to use a plumber, identify the correct parts in advance and consider ordering a pair of valves plus one bush to avoid a second visit. Unused parts can be returned.
FAQs – Repairing Your Lamona Hi Tech Tap
What tools will I need?
An adjustable spanner (17 mm ring preferred), a soft cloth, and long-nose pliers. A small screwdriver or fingernail removes the handle dust cap. No Allen key is required for this model.
Can I do this myself?
Yes. Follow the steps above and our linked DIY guides. If hiring a plumber, order the valve with a bush as a precaution—unused bushes can be returned.
What if I don’t know the age of the tap?
Choose the 4276R; it works across all production years. Or remove your current valve and email us a photo of the stamp for confirmation.
I don’t know which valve is faulty—what should I do?
If the tap drips from the spout, either side may be worn. We suggest a pair of valves and one bush. You can return unused parts.
Why choose genuine parts over cheaper copies?
Only genuine parts guarantee correct fit and sealing. With 2014-or-earlier taps, the 4276R is the only proven long-term solution. Copy valves often cause leaks or handle-fit issues.
My old valve looks like a 3547R but is stamped 2014—can I use it?
No. They look similar but differ internally. For 2014 or earlier, use the 4276R.
I fitted the 4276R and there’s a small gap under the handle—is that normal?
Yes. The thicker white seal compresses with use. It does not affect performance.
How do I remove the Hi Tech handle?
Pop out the round chrome dust cap, unscrew the cross-head screw underneath, then pull the handle straight off. Avoid levering tools against the chrome surface.
Do I need silicone grease on the O-rings?
Yes. Silicone (or equivalent) grease helps sealing and smooth spout rotation, and prolongs O-ring life.
Can I reuse the brass bush?
Yes, if in good condition. If the old bush comes out attached to the valve, unscrew it and reuse on the new valve. Keep a spare to avoid delays.
